Web hosts? Domain names? What's it all mean?
Question:
What is the difference between a "Web host" and a "domain name"? And why do I need them?
Answer:
A Web host is a company that stores your Web site on a computer that is accessible to anyone on the Internet. In essense, a Web host is "home" to your actual Web site. You need a Web host in order for people to view your site on the Internet.
A domain name, or URL, is the address of your Web site that a visitor types in the Web browser (such as Internet Explorer) to get to your Web site. For example, Two Cow Town's domain name, or URL, is www.twocowtown.com.
A reliable Web host plan can be purchased for as little as $7/month. A domain name can be purchased for a low annual fee from any of many domain name resellers. Two Cow Town will work with you to set up a Web host and purchase a domain name as part of your overall Web design project.
